Writing is a fundamental skill for any college student - especially those attending Trident. Since the capabilities of students vary, we help to bridge the gap by offering a number of writing resources, including an online Writing Workshop and a Writing Style Guide. These can be accessed through the Trident Learning Community (TLC) Student Portal.

The Writing Workshop is divided into five parts: introduction, preparing to write, structure and drafting, refining writing, and editing and proofreading. Each part, except for the introduction, includes exercises that allow students to practice writing. If you need to brush up on your writing skills, this is a great place to start. This workshop is available to all students a week before the start of a session.

The most successful students are those who prepare early and understand assignment expectations. Since Trident requires APA format for all written assignments, the Writing Workshop will be a tool you'll want to use often.

Proofreading and editing your assignments are just as important as writing the initial draft. The Writing Style Guide on TLC provides a mixture of topics you can incorporate into your papers. This guide provides information on APA formatting, citations, grammar help, writing strategies, and more for students to improve their written communication skills.

Reviewing information and understanding one's own strengths and weaknesses are keys to your academic success. Both the Writing Workshop and the Writing Style Guide were designed to enable students, both those who have extensive writing experience as well as those returning to school after a long break, to become better writers.

Writing skills are key to your academic and professional success, which is why Trident provides these resources to our students at no additional cost. By regularly taking advantage of these tools, you will give yourself a better chance of success in the classroom.
