Dr. Larry Hoff, PhD Dr. Larry Hoff (Retired)ALUMNI BIOGRAPHY
Col. Larry Alan Hoff, USAF (Ret), of Loganville, passed away on Thursday, October 20, 2011, after a long and courageous battle with esophageal and liver cancer. The Hoff family would like to thank the many family members and friends for their prayers and kindnesses shown to them during this very difficult time. In lieu of flowers, the family wishes that memorial contributions be made to the American Cancer Society, specifically to liver cancer research, or to the American Legion Department of Georgia Hoff/Helton Fund. Dr. Larry Hoff, one of the most respected and revered members of the faculty at Trident University International recently passed after a long illness. He taught at TUI for over eight years and was one of the faculty most responsible for the success of our program in Emergency and Disaster Management. He brought a wealth of knowledge and experience to TUI that is unmatched. Dr. Hoff retired in 1993 as a U.S. Air Force Colonel. He was a command pilot, an unconventional warfare and terrorism expert, and a residence graduate of the U.S. Army War College where he served on the Eisenhower Academic Outreach Team. He participated in and was director of Crisis Action Teams from Air Division to the Joint Staff level during periods of crisis and war. He served as Director of Operations for the United Nations Special Commission on Iraq (UNSCOM), and as a consultant to the Republic of Korea Joint Chiefs of Staff on Air Special Operations and Counter Infiltration. He was a participant, planner, and director for humanitarian airlift support nationally and internationally. Each of these positions and activities combined with his academic background (two master’s degrees, one master’s certificate and a PhD) firmly established his experience and capability in understanding the paradigm of National and Homeland Security. Larry was passionate about education and mentored and counseled many teenagers, young adults and members of the military regarding their careers, opportunities in the military and furthering there education. He was selected twice as a “STAR” teacher. He initially devised and developed a supporting course for the emergency management Master’s level curriculum in “Combating Terrorism.” In the past eight years, he has instructed twelve master’s level courses and one undergraduate course. The gambit of Emergency Management Master’s courses varied from his Combating Terrorism course include introduction to Emergency Management, current issues of terrorism, Bio-Terrorism, Emergency Planning and Methodology, Occupational Health and Safety, Disaster Relief, Psychosocial Aspects of Emergency and Disaster; and Emergency in Education. CSM George Duncan CSM George DuncanALUMNI BIOGRAPHY
Command Sergeant Major George D. Duncan enlisted in the Army and reported for active duty on June 15, 1977. He attended Basic Combat Training at Ft. Dix, New Jersey, and Advanced Individual Training at the Army Infantry School at Ft. Benning, Georgia. Current Assignment: Commandant of the III Corps and Fort Hood Noncommissioned Officer Academy CSM Duncan was initially assigned to the 1st Infantry Division in Goeppingen, Germany as an Infantryman, Team Leader and Section Leader with A Co. 1st BN 26th Infantry from 1977 to 1981. He attended Drill Sergeant School and served as a Drill Sergeant at Ft. Knox, Kentucky from 1981-1984. His assignments since then have taken him across the globe where he served as a platoon sergeant during Operation Desert Storm with the 3rd Infantry Division, Operations Sergeant for 2/5 CAV 1st Cavalry Division and as a First Sergeant for C Co. 2 BN 7th CAV at Ft. Hood. He also served as the senior enlisted advisor for Joint Task Force Full-Accounting at Camp H.M. Smith, Hawaii. CSM Duncan returned to the 1st Infantry Division in June of 2000 as the Division Operations Sergeant Major and was ultimately assigned to Ft. Jackson, S.C. in June of 2002. Since his arrival he has served as the Battalion Command Sergeant Major for 2nd BN 39th Infantry Regiment, 1st BN 61st Infantry Regiment and as the Command Sergeant Major for the 1st Basic Combat Training Brigade. CSM Duncan was the Command Sergeant Major of the 19th Support Command (Expeditionary), Daegu, Republic of Korea, where he served until his selection as the current 8th Theater Sustainment Command CSM. CSM Duncan is a graduate of every intermediate and advanced level of the Noncommissioned Officers education system. He holds an Associate’s degree in Industrial Maintenance Technology from Indiana Technical College, a Master’s degree in Business Administration from Touro University International, and is an instrument rated commercial pilot. David completed 30 years on Active Duty in the United States Army retiring as the Command Sergeant Major for Tripler Army Medical Center’s Troop Command. He has served with distinction in roles within the United States Army Medical Corps and the Army Public Health Command. He has worked as a Senior Operations Supervisor within the United States, Europe, the Pacific Rim, Central and South America and also in combat operations in Southwest Asia. David was assigned and worked within the Army’ elite Special Operations Command for nearly 10 years. He is credentialed as a certified Black Belt in Lean Six Sigma and well versed in the functions of Balanced Score Card Management. Additionally, he worked as the Principal Advisor to the CEO of the United States Army Center for Health Promotion and Preventive Medicine Command, supervising five subordinate direct reporting Commands across three continents (Japan, Germany and the United States). He is presently employed as an Executive with the Pacific Regional Dental Command as the Chief, Strategy and Innovation and Senior Lean Six Sigma Black Belt responsible for practice management for the entire Pacific Regional Dental Command spanning three continents. David has performed in a multitude of supervisory leadership positions in the United States Army and has worked intimately with International colleagues throughout the European and Pacific Rim. David completed a Bachelor of Science degree with Excelsior College and a Master of Science in Health Sciences, Emergency and Disaster Management, graduating Summa Cum Laude from TUI University. SMA Kenneth Preston (Retired) SMA Kenneth Preston (Retired)ALUMNI BIOGRAPHY
Sergeant Major of the Army Kenneth O. Preston was sworn in as the 13th Sergeant Major of the Army on January 15, 2004. He retired on March 1, 2011 after having served more than seven years which was the longest term for the position since its inception in 1966. SMA Preston has held a variety of leadership positions throughout his career ranging from cavalry scout to command sergeant major. As Sergeant Major of the Army, Preston serves as the Army Chief of Staff’s personal adviser on all enlisted-related matters, particularly in areas affecting Soldier training and quality of life. He devotes the majority of his time to traveling throughout the Army observing training, and talking to Soldiers and their families. He sits on a wide variety of councils and boards that make decisions affecting enlisted Soldiers and their families and is routinely invited to testify before Congress. Preston is a native of Mount Savage, Md., and was born Feb. 18, 1957. Preston entered the Army on June 30, 1975. He attended Basic Training and Armor Advanced Individual Training at Fort Knox, Kentucky. Throughout his 28-year career, he has served in every enlisted leadership position from cavalry scout and tank commander to his current position as Sergeant Major of the Army. Other assignments he held as command sergeant major were 3rd Battalion, 8th Cavalry Regiment, 1st Cavalry Division, Fort Hood, Texas, 3rd “Grey Wolf” Brigade, 1st Cavalry Division, 1st Armored Division in Bad Kreuznach, Germany, and V Corps in Heidelberg, Germany. Command Sergeant Major Laidlaw was born in Delhi, New York. After he enlisted in the Army in August 1976, he completed Basic Training at Ft Leonard Wood, Missouri and Advanced Individual Training at Ft. Sill, Oklahoma, graduating as a Field Artillery Surveyor MOS 82C. His assignments include Baumholder, Coleman Barracks, and Illesheim, Germany; Ft. Lewis, Washington; Schofield Barracks and Wheeler Army Airfield, Hawaii; Ft. Drum, New York; and Camp Stanley, Korea. CSM Laidlaw has also served in Operation RESTORE HOPE in Somalia 1993, and Operations IRAQI FREEDOM from 2003 to 2004. He has held challenging leadership assignments at all levels, such as Team Chief, Section Chief, Aircraft Technical Inspector, Platoon Sergeant, First Sergeant, Operations Sergeant Major and Command Sergeant Major. CSM Martin Glenn (Retired) CSM Martin Glenn (Retired)ALUMNI BIOGRAPHY
Martin W. Glenn is an Antiterrorism Analyst for Camber Corporation; he has been working in this position since July 2009. Martin W. Glenn was born in Lexington, Kentucky and raised in St Louis, Missouri. He entered the United States Army in June of 1979, attended Basic Training at Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri and Advanced Individual Training at Ft Huachuca, Arizona where he was awarded the MOS 96B, Intelligence Analyst. Upon completion of Advanced Individual Training he was assigned to the 1st BDE (1st Infantry Division, Fort Riley, Kansas) as an Intelligence Analyst. While assigned to 1st Brigade, 1st Infantry Division, he deployed to Germany for a REFORGER exercise, completed a rotation to the National Training Center, and worked at 1st Battalion, 18th Infantry and conducted a deployment exercise with 1st Squadron, 4th Cavalry Regiment. In 1982, Marty Glenn was assigned to the 101st Airborne Division, Fort Campbell KY as an Intelligence Analyst with 1st Battalion, 321st Field Artillery (ABN)(AASLT). While serving as a Battalion Intelligence Analyst, he participated in numerous division and Brigade level field exercises. In 1984, he PCS’d to Germany and was assigned as an Intelligence Analyst with 2nd Battalion, 33rd Armor (3rd Armor Division) where he was involved with numerous exercises, REFORGERs, and the M1 Abrams transition. In 1986, CSM Glenn helped the Battalion transition to a COHORT Battalion and move to Fort Hood, Texas where it was re-designated as 3rd Battalion, 32nd Armor (1st Cavalry Division). While assigned to this Battalion, CSM Glenn helped develop a battalion counter-reconnaissance plan and deployed for a second time to the National Training Center. In 1988, Marty Glenn PCS’d to Panama and was assigned as an Intelligence Analyst with 1st Battalion, 508th Infantry (ABN) (193rd Infantry Brigade, Panama) where he prepared for and conducted combat operations with the Battalion during Operation JUST CAUSE as part of Task Force Bayonet. After Operation JUST CAUSE, he deployed several times with individual infantry companies conducting parachute assaults into the David province in support of Operation PROMOTE LIBERTY. In 1990, Marty Glenn was assigned to 3rd Battalion, 1st Special Forces Group (ABN) (Fort Lewis, Washington) where he served as an Intelligence Advisor and Military Intelligence Detachment 1SG. While there he deployed numerous times to the Joint Readiness Training Center. He also participated in a deployment along the Texas border in support of JTF-6 Counter-Narcotics mission. He also deployed to Thailand in support of Cobra Gold. While at Fort Lewis, Washington, in 1994, Marty Glenn was selected to serve as 1SG for A Co, 14th Military Intelligence Battalion, 201st Military Intelligence Brigade. In 1995, Marty Glenn PCS’d back to Panama and became the 1SG for C Co., 470th Military Intelligence Brigade. His company was responsible for source operation and monitoring Panamanian demonstration along the Canal Zone for U.S. force protection. As the Brigade began to deactivate, Marty Glenn took the position of 1SG for D Co., 204th Military Intelligence Battalion (Low Intensity) at Fort Kobbe, Panama and conducted Counter-Narcotics Operations throughout Central and South America. In 1998 and 1999, Marty Glenn served as the Senior Intelligence Observer/Controller for the Joint Readiness Training Center at Fort Polk, Louisiana. He was responsible for briefing and advising Light Infantry Brigade Combat Teams on NCO leadership issues as it affects the I-BOS as well as coaching, teaching, and mentoring the Military Intelligence units on NCO leadership issues and TTPs. Marty Glenn graduated from the Sergeants Major Academy, Class 50 in 2000. He was then assigned as the CSM for 319th Military Intelligence Battalion (OPS)(ABN) at Fort Bragg, North Carolina, where he deployed numerous Soldiers to Bosnia as well as Afghanistan, Pakistan and Iraq in support of the Global War on Terrorism. In 2003, Marty Glenn was selected as the CSM, 525th Military Intelligence Brigade (ABN). The Brigade deployed 1,500 Soldiers in combat operations to Iraq in support of OIF 04-06 in November 2004 to November 2005. After his deployment to Iraq, Marty Glenn was selected as the CSM for 500th Military Intelligence Brigade in direct support to United States Army Pacific. While in this position, the 1,500 Soldier Brigade supported the Global War on Terrorism in the Philippines, as well as numerous exercises throughout the Pacific Rim. Marty Glenn retired from the Army in June 2009 after 30 years service. Marty Glenn’s awards and decorations include the Legion of Merit, Bronze Star, Meritorious Service Medal (4OLC), Army Commendation Medal (1OLC), Army Achievement Medal (1OLC), Good Conduct Medal (10th Award), National Defense Service Medal, Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal (W/ Bronze Arrowhead), Global War On Terrorism Service Medal, Armed Forces Service Medal, Non-Commissioned Officer Professional Development Ribbon (W/numeral 4), Army Service Ribbon, Overseas Service Ribbon (W/numeral 3), Master Parachutist Badge, and the Air Assault Badge. Marty Glenn’s military education includes the Air Assault School, Airborne School, Jumpmaster School, Survival Evasion Resistance Escape Course (High Risk Level C), Security Managers Course, Intelligence in Counterterrorism Course, Special Operations Command Research Analysis and Threat Evaluation System Basic Course, Special operations Command Integrated Data Base Retrieval Course, Primary Leadership Development Course, Basic and Advanced Noncommissioned Officers Course, and the First Sergeant Course. He is a graduate of Class 50, United States Army Sergeants Major Academy. CSM Daniel Elder (Retired) CSM Daniel Elder (Retired)ALUMNI BIOGRAPHY
Highlights Dan is the founder of the original NCO Website and its successors Squad-leader.com and Firstsergeant.com, which were grass-roots collaboration centers oriented towards Soldiers. He was awarded the first-ever Army Knowledge Management Pioneer Award in August 2003 by the Army CIO/G-6. In October 2005, he donated his successful sites to the Army, which became the BCKS NCO Net, winner of an Army 2007 Knowledge Management Award. Following his retirement from the Army after a 26-year career, Dan joined Computer Sciences Corporation (CSC) as a Knowledge Management professional. In 2010 he formed Topsarge Business Solutions where he now serves as Chief Consultant and Knowledge Officer. He was awarded a Bachelors of Science degree in Business Administration from Touro University, California, and earned certification in Knowledge Management (CKMP) by the KM Professional Society. Dan currently provides consultation services in collaboration techniques, knowledge management, and is a social media advocate to the Central Texas community in both the public and private sectors. CSM Dan Elder entered the Army from his California hometown in Dec 1981 and went on to serve in a variety of enlisted leadership positions, from the squad to the most senior enlisted rank, culminating with 11 years’ experience as a Command Sergeant Major. His assignments included duty as an instructor, drill sergeant, first sergeant, and on the staff of the Sergeants Major Academy, with his final assignment as the Senior Enlisted Advisor of the U.S. Army Materiel Command. He deployed to both OPERATION Joint Endeavor in Bosnia-Herzegovina and OPERATION Iraqi Freedom. He served on the Sergeant Major of the Army Board of Directors, and he was selected to serve as the CSM for then incoming Chief of Staff Gen. George Casey’s transition team where he interviewed senior enlisted leaders Army-wide. He was general editor and author for the Center of Military History’s book Sergeants Major of the Army, and was an Advisory Team member for the Army Research Institute. He authored the book Educating Noncommissioned Officers and has published numerous articles about U.S. Army NCOs. He has consulted with publishers and authors, including Guardians of the Republic, The Three Meter Zone, and The Shake and Bake Sergeant. Education:

Command Sergeant Major (Retired) Gilbert L. Canuela is currently serving as the Executive Mentor to the Chief NCO of Afghan National Police in Kabul, Afghanistan. He previously served as the Senior Mentor to the 203rd Corps CSM, Afghanistan National Army. Canuela served over thirty years in the US Army, still have so much to give and love serving for his country. Canuela was selected for promotion to Command Sergeant Major with 16 years in the US Army. Canuela would serve as Command Sergeant Major of the 24th Infantry Division and Post CSM of Fort Riley, Kansas, the Army Test and Evaluation Command (ATEC) CSM, Washington D.C., the White Sands Missile Range Installation CSM in New Mexico, the 4th Fires Brigade, 4th Infantry Division in Operation Iraqi Freedom, 41st Fires Brigade CSM, Ft Hood, TX, the 1st Armored Division Artillery CSM, Baumholder, Germany and Kosovo Forces-KFOR 2A/2B, Camp Bondsteel, Kosovo and as the Battalion CSM with the 1st Battalion, 41st FA, 3d Infantry Division at Fort Stewart, Georgia and deployed in support of “Operation Desert Thunder-Kuwait” to deter aggression from Iraq. Canuela completed One Station Unit Training (OSUT) as the BCT “Honor Graduate”, Forward Observer- “Master Blaster” and 13F Class “Distinguished Graduate”. He also graduated as the “Honor Graduate” in PNCOC, BNCOC, ANCOC, Drill Sergeant School, Air Assault School, Battle Staff Course, First Sergeant Course and the Fire Support Tactical Fire Direction Course. Canuela has held a variety of leadership and staff positions to include ASCC Inspector General, First Sergeant, Corps and Brigade Operations and Intelligence NCO, III (US)Corps TAC NCOIC, Targeting NCO, III Corps Arty Liaison NCOIC, Schools NCO, Master Fitness Trainer, Fire Support Sergeant at company, battalion, brigade and corps level. As a Drill Sergeant, he led his platoon to win the Honor Platoon for eight consecutive cycles spanning over a 2 year period at Fort Sill, Oklahoma. He was selected as the “Drill Sergeant of the Cycle” (3 awards) and was selected as the Fort Sill “Drill Sergeant of the Year”. Throughout his over 30-years career, Canuela has earned the titles of 1st Cavalry Division Artillery “Soldier of the Year”, 25th Infantry Division Artillery “NCO of the Year”, and the 2002 US Army and Federal Asian-Pacific American Council Meritorious Award. He is a member of the prestigious USAREUR Sergeant Morales Club and FORSCOM Sergeant Audie Murphy Club. He led his Fire Support Teams (FIST) to win the “FIST Best by Test” competition from 1981, 1982 and 1983. He has been recognized by the US Army Field Artillery and the Military Police for his outstanding service, was awarded the Honorable Order of Saint Barbara and the Ancient Order of Saint Barbara and an Honorary Member of the Military Police Regiment. Command July 12, 2010. He now serves as the Commanding General’s personal advisor on all matters relating to enlisted Soldiers with the emphasis on training, safety and quality of life.CSM Riling moved from FORSCOM, the Army’s largest command, from First Army where he had served as its Command Sergeant Major since June 2007. Riling is a native of Riverview, Michigan. He began his Army career in 1983 as a Cavalry Scout, completing initial entry and advanced individual training at Fort Knox, Ky. Chief Warrant Officer 4 David V. Jones’ previous assignment was as the 31st Air Defense Artillery Brigade Electronic Missile Maintenance Officer (EMMO) at Fort Sill, Oklahoma. He served as 6-52 ADA Battalion EMMO from July 2006 to July 2008. Previously to this he served as 6-52 ADA Battalion Maintenance Officer (BMO) in Ansbach, Germany. CW4 Jones was born on December 15, 1973 in Houston, Texas. He entered the Army in June of 1992 and attended Basic Combat Training at Fort Jackson, South Carolina. After completing Advanced Individual Training (AIT) he was assigned to Echo 2-7 ADA as a Patriot Crewmember at Fort Bliss, Texas where he deployed to both CENTCOM and the Korean Peninsula within an 18 month period. Eight months after returning to home station, he re-deployed as a Section Chief with Alpha 1-43 ADA at Kunsan, Korea. Following that assignment and the Primary Leadership Development Course (PLDC), he served as Instructor/Writer and Platoon Sergeant/Academics Branch Chief for Bravo 3-6 ADA at Fort Bliss, Texas. After completion of Basic Non-Commissioned Officer Course (BNCOC) in 1998, CW4 Jones was selected as an ADA Warrant Officer in MOS 140E (Air and Missile Defense Tactician/Technician). In 1999, he completed Warrant Officer Candidate School (WOCS) at Fort Rucker, Alabama. William J. (Joe) Gainey was the first Senior Enlisted Advisor to the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff (SEAC). He retired after 33.5 years of service to his nation on April 25, 2008 with the rank of Command Sergeant Major. Joe served as NCO for 32 years, 13 of which as a Command Sergeant Major (CSM). Joe was the first Senior Enlisted Advisor to the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, a newly created position established to advise the Chairman on matters of professional development of enlisted personnel for a joint environment. He was the first person selected to serve in this position beginning October 1, 2005 making him the most Senior Enlisted Noncommissioned Officer (NCO) in the Department of Defense. Joe enlisted in the Army under the Delayed Entry Program in 1974 and entered basic training at Fort Knox, Kentucky on 17 June 1975. Since then, he has served in every leadership position in the United States Army. After retirement Joe worked for the Joint Improvised Explosive Device Defeat Organization (JIEDDO) located in Washington DC for approximately one year before establishing WGainey Consulting as an independent consultant. Joe’s son Captain Ryan J. (Joe) Gainey is the Commander of Bandit Troop, 3rd ACR, Fort Hood, TX and his son-in law, SSG Jeffrey Roberts, is with the 4th Ranger Training Brigade, Fort Benning, GA. Dr. Cameron Lee is at the forefront of academic achievement and the community practice of surgery. He is a member of numerous professional organizations including the American Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons, the American College of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons, the American Academy of Implant Dentistry and is a Fellow and Diplomate of the International Congress of Oral Implantologists. Dr. Lee is a dedicated educator and is extensively involved in continuing education. In addition to lecturing on topics in his surgical specialty, he has authored over 30 scientific articles in peer reviewed professional journals. He has extensive reconstructive surgical experience with a particular interest in bone biology and regenerative medicine. Dr Lee is at the leading edge of bioengineering technology with the use of bone morphogenetic proteins (BMP), mesenchymal stem cell (MSC) therapy and platelet rich plasma (PRP) to enhance wound healing. In 1994, Dr. Lee introduced the concept of computer guided surgery in Hawaii, and he continues to push the surgical envelope in managing complex surgical cases utilizing in-office computer generated (CT Scans) images and interactive three dimensional (3DCT) computer software. Dr. Nicholas Razum was introduced to Trident University through the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department University (LASDU), an employee education program which established Academic Partnerships with a number of accredited colleges and universities, including TUI. Dr. Nicholas Razum has been a Reserve Deputy for LASD for over 25 years as an avocation, during which time he has served as a canine handler and trainer, a field which led to his Ph.D. dissertation topic. Trident’s Ph.D. in Health Science, with a concentration in Research and Education, has opened the doors for Dr. Razum’s corporate and personal goals. During the last phase of his doctoral program, he was the head of Education and Training for a medium sized pharmaceutical company. His doctorate paved the way to being interviewed and hired by a much larger company with more diverse opportunities. He is currently a Director of Training and Development for Amgen, the world’s largest Biotechnology company, and serves as the chairperson of the company’s Executive Learning Council, their Chief Learning Office. Dr. Razum states, “I completed my doctorate in slightly less than four years with a full time job and frequent overseas travel, a wife and young son, and a demanding avocation. CMDCM Michael Adam Lucas was born in Brasov, Transylvania, (ethnic Hungarian) Romania. He immigrated to the United States in March, 1975. Master Chief Lucas joined the Navy after becoming a US citizen in Sep 1984. After eight months of DEP he began Boot camp on May, 13, 1985 (on his 22-nd birthday). He went on to complete EBAT, BEE, AVA, and AFTA all in-service schools for ATs. He received H-3 FRAMP training at HS-10, June to November of 1986. His first official command was HS-16 Nighthawks NASNI. This was a PRECOM and DECOM unit with CAG-10. HS-16 lasted less than two years. It was commissioned Sep 1986 and decommissioned May 1988. Upon the decommissioning of HS-16 he transferred to the HS-2 Golden Falcons. He served the Golden Falcons for four years and two WESTPACs one with H-3 Seakings and One with H-60F Seahawks. He advanced to AT1 at HS-2 and transferred to HS-10 CMT unit as the first H-60F instructor with fleet experience. In 1995 he was selected to CPO and he transferred to VAW-117 where he completed one WESTPAC and two Counter Narcotics deployments. He then transferred to COMHSLWP in1999. He was advanced to ATCS in 2000. Jan 2002 he transferred to the VAW-124 Bearaces in Norfolk VA. With the Bearaces fulfilled the roles of QAS, MMCPO/8300 and finally CMC. He was then transferred back to SoCal to the HSL-43 Battlecats, where he began as QAS and took over as MMCPO for over a year at which time he was advanced to AVCM. He then took orders to the best “L” class ship in the fleet as the AIMD Maintenance Master Chef and LCPO. He was selected to the CMC program while onboard the USS Bonhomme Richard. From Aug of 2008 to April 2011 he was stationed with the finest Sailors and Squadron in the Navy, the world famous HS-10 Warhawks. He retired as a Captain from the Navy in July 2004 after a 28-year military career. During his Naval service he completed tours both stateside and overseas, served on three ships and commanded Shore Intermediate Maintenance Activity San Francisco, CA and was Supervisor of Shipbuilding Conversion & Repair, Portsmouth VA. Dr. Murphy assumed the position of Executive Director of the Mid-Atlantic Regional Maintenance Center in September 2004. As organizational structures evolved in 2009, MARMC was disestablished and the Norfolk Ship Support Activity was created. Dr. Murphy now serves as Executive Director of the Norfolk Ship Support Activity. Currently Dr. Murphy is a Senior Engineer at the Naval Surface Warfare Centers/Naval Undersea Warfare Centers. At the national level, he provides leadership and program development for key aspects of workforce talent management across the NSWC/NUWC community. Dr. Murphy applies knowledge management research & demographic analysis to recommend knowledge stewardship strategies, policies, processes, tools and assessments necessary to help sustain an agile and responsive talent management system. Chief Master Sergeant Eric R. Jaren serves as the Command Chief, Air Force Materiel Command, Wright-Patterson AFB, Ohio. As command chief, he is the primary advisor to the commander and senior staff on all matters affecting education, development, training, readiness, effective utilization and quality-of-life of the command’s 13,431 enlisted Airmen and their families. He coordinates with headquarters staff, commanders, and senior leaders on development and implementation of command policy affecting the Command’s 11 centers and 31 wings & wing-equivalent directorates extending across 67 locations. He also serves as the command functional manager for 11 command chiefs, 25 group superintendents and 64 first sergeants. Chief Jaren entered the Air Force in 1982 and has served at squadron, group, wing and numbered air force levels. Previous duties include superintendent assignments within the Maintenance Group, Operations Group and Mission Support Group, as well as additional duties in mobility operations, first sergeant, protocol and special projects. Chief Master Sergeant Donald E. Felch is the 12th Commandant of the Paul H. Lankford Enlisted Professional Military Education Center at The I.G. Brown Air National Guard Training and Education Center, McGhee Tyson Air National Guard Base, Tenn. As Commandant, Chief Felch manages a staff of personnel who conduct education and training courses that accomplish the professional military education program directives of the Thomas N. Barnes Center for Enlisted Education and the Community College of the Air Force. He has overall responsibility for the Airman Leadership School, the Noncommissioned Officers Academy, and the satellite broadcast versions of both courses. More than 2,000 students per year receive professional education through these courses. Chief Master Sergeant Felch began his military career in 1984, as an aircraft armament systems specialist. His background includes various assignments in armament systems, aircraft maintenance, logistics, and professional military education. He has served overseas in Guam, Turkey, Kuwait, and Iraq and supported Operations Northern Watch, Southern Watch, and Iraqi Freedom. Prior to his current assignment, Chief Master Sergeant Felch was the Air National Guard Advisor to the Commander of the Thomas N. Barnes Center for Enlisted Education at Maxwell-Gunter Air Force Base, Ala. Chief McQuiston entered the Air Force in April 1982. After completing basic military training and technical training, he served in various administrative and personnel management positions at squadron, wing and major command levels. His experience includes serving as the special assistant to a major command commander and senior enlisted advisor serving as the sole personnel manager for enlisted matters. He also served as a military personnel flight superintendent servicing more than 15,000 Airmen and their families, a major command senior officer management superintendent responsible for career management of more than 500 colonels and 40 active-duty, Air National Guard and Air Force Reserve general officers. Prior to his current assignment, he served as the command chief master sergeant at the wing, numbered air force, and deployed area of operations supporting Operation Enduring Freedom in Afghanistan.
