THE WHERE, HOW, AND WHO OF USING GOVERNMENT WEBSITES FOR A JOB SEARCH

We all know that there is a superabundance of career and job search information on the internet. It can be overwhelming. That’s why Trident’s Center for Career Planning and Workforce Strategies has narrowed down the career/job search website list to three top websites.
- Bureau of Labor Statistics https://www.bls.gov/
- O*NET Online https://www.onetonline.org/
- Career One Stop https://www.careeronestop.org/
Descriptions and requirements for a specific job title can vary widely from industry to industry. No longer do you have to enter a job title in the search bar to find a perfect opportunity for yourself. The websites above allow you to search by many different criteria, including:
- Occupational group or job family
- Entry-level education required
- Median pay
- Number of new jobs projected
- Industry growth rate projected
- Abilities
- Interests
- Knowledge
- Skills
- Achievement values and goals
There are people of many different backgrounds, circumstances, and years of experience. The websites above include tools specific to:
- Those who are changing careers
- Military veterans
- Students
- Entry-level workers
- Laid-off workers
We encourage our students and alumni to visit these websites and dig deep into the career and job search resources and tools they offer. If you would like to view our archived webinar, Cool Tools 4 – Research Using Government Sites, go to https://youtu.be/RUtVrsDQVqE
