Online Human Resource Master's Program Overview

Designed according to the standards of the Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM), this online master’s degree program uses a case-based approach that focuses on preparing students for real-world application. You'll work to develop the systems knowledge and critical thinking skills to prepare to pursue roles as a strategic partner in the operational management of any organization.

The Master of Science in Human Resource Management (MSHRM) helps adult learners prepare to implement and lead talent management programs nationally and globally. Students can acquire a business foundation while working to develop in-depth knowledge of the strategic importance of HRM contributing to organizational goals. Using an applied, evidence-based approach, the program is intended for all adults who either work or aspire to work in the field of HRM.

In addition, anyone working in management will benefit from knowing how human resource practices such as talent recruitment, talent development, performance management, and employee compensation can contribute to the effectiveness of day-today operations as well as achieving strategic goals. Upon successful program completion, graduates should be prepared to design and implement effective HR systems to achieve well-defined business outcomes.

Learning Outcomes

Upon successful completion of their respective degree program option, graduates should be able to:

  • Enhance human resource management knowledge of systems, processes, and procedures through the application of ACBSP key business domains.
  • Implement talent management strategies that attract, retain, and develop a diverse workforce in order to drive organizational success in a global context.
  • Apply problem-solving techniques to critically evaluate the effectiveness, efficiency, and relevance of current human resource policies, processes, and practices.
  • Implement negotiation and conflict resolution techniques to facilitate constructive dialogue, foster collaboration, and achieve mutually beneficial outcomes in complex situations.
  • Evaluate the ethical implications of HR policies, processes, and practices to ensure fair treatment, equal opportunity, and compliance with applicable laws and regulations.

Courses at Trident are industry-relevant. As an MS in Human Resource Management student, you can take a variety of classes, including Legal Implications in Human Resource; Staffing, Performance Management and Training; and Employment and Labor Relations. Subject to additional college-or program-specific admissions requirements, the following standard admissions requirements apply:

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university.
  • Cumulative minimum GPA of 2.5.
  • Certificate-seeking students must provide official transcripts of all prior academic work, including military transcripts.
  • Master's degree students are required to provide official transcripts from the institution granting the undergraduate degree.
  • Academic entrance exams, such as GRE, MAT or GMAT, are not required for admission.
  • International students must provide proof of English proficiency (see Trident University Catalog for details).

The following standard transfer policies apply:

  • Transfer students are required to provide official transcripts of all prior academic work without exception.
  • Prior academic work will be articulated during the admission process.
  • All courses, whether applied to a program or program elective in transfer will be posted to the student's permanent record.
  • Transfer credits will not be included in the calculation of overall GPA.
  • Graduate coursework submitted for transfer must have been completed within the prior seven years unless the content is deemed outdated or no longer equivalent or relevant by Trident.
  • Trident may accept for transfer to the master's degree up to 30% of graduate level credits from other accredited colleges or universities. All transferred course credits must have a GPA of 3.0 or better.
