February 13, 2014 – Cypress, CA – Trident University International (Trident), a leader in online education offering Bachelors, Masters, and Doctoral degrees, has announced the addition of Dr. Linda M. Thor to its Board of Trustees. She becomes the 12th member of Trident’s Board, which governs the University and helps to define its overall direction and strategies.
Dr. Thor is a natural fit for the University because her guiding educational philosophies align perfectly with Trident’s core values. “As a long time champion of more higher education options for adults that are convenient, flexible, and high quality, I am pleased to join the Board of a university that shares my commitments,” says Dr. Thor.
Her passion and advocacy for adult learners doesn’t just shine through in her words, but also through her long-term higher education outlook. For the United States to compete on a global level, she feels that adult learners need to be provided with options that are both affordable and of high quality. Trident prides itself in meeting both criteria.
Coming to Trident with over 30 years of experience in higher education administration, Dr. Thor is currently the chancellor of the Foothill-De Anza Community College District in California’s Silicon Valley. Dr. Thor is a nationally recognized innovator in education. Before joining Foothill-De Anza in February 2010, she served for nearly 20 years as president of Rio Salado College in Tempe, Arizona, a college known for serving working adults through online learning and worksite training. Prior to becoming Rio Salado’s president in 1990, Dr. Thor was president of West Los Angeles College in Culver City, California.
Dr. Thor is engaged at the national level, serving on the boards of the League for Innovation in the Community College, the Commission on Education Attainment and Innovation for the American Council of Education, and the board of the Community College Baccalaureate Association. She serves on the Western Interstate Commission for Higher Education (WICHE) by gubernatorial appointment.
Dr. Thor holds a bachelor’s degree in journalism from Pepperdine University, a master of public administration degree from California State University, Los Angeles, and a doctor of education degree in community college administration from Pepperdine University. In 2012, she was the recipient of the Morris T. Keeton Award from the Council for Adult and Experiential Learning (CAEL) and the Distinguished Service Award from the National University Technology Network (NUTN).
