July 5, 2019 – Cypress, CA – Trident University International (Trident) Ph.D. in Business Administration students Jeanetta Grover and Kerri Wood presented at last week’s Association of Computing Machinery Special Interest Group in Management Information Systems (ACM SIGMIS) Computers and People Research: Enduring Issues in MIS and Work conference in Nashville, TN.
As part of the Welcome Reception and Poster Session on Thursday, June 20th, Wood presented Ethical Behaviors of IT Specialists in Organizations, which seeks to understand the role that ethics plays in the decision-making processes of information technology professionals in organizations.
During the same session, Grover presented the poster, What Motivates You? Linking Enterprise Social Media Use, Gratification, Performance, and Well Being. This research focuses on the use of enterprise social media networks by organizations, and how these networks impact employee well-being and performance improvements.
Grover’s work earned her the conference’s “2019 Best Poster Award.”
During the paper sessions, on Friday, June 21st, Wood presented the paper, An Exploration into the Relationships of Ethical Decision Making and Moral Reasoning Among IT Specialists with Ethics Training, Education, and Ethical Leadership, as part of the “Ethics and Trust” paper session.
All research presented by the two students was adapted from their respective dissertations.
Dr. Laura Gurney, Trident Ph.D. alumnus and Assistant Professor at Husson University, presented the paper ‘What You Say, I Buy’: Information Diagnosticity and the Impact of Electronic Word-of-Mouth (WOM) Consumer Reviews on Purchase Intention during that day’s “Social Value” session. Trident’s Dr. Indira Guzman and John Eveland served as co-presenters.
Dr. Indira Guzman, Doctoral Director of Trident’s Glenn R. Jones College of Business, served as Session Chair for the “IT Interests and Skills” paper session on Saturday, June 22nd.
On Thursday, Grover and Wood were part of the Doctoral Consortium. This was a key opportunity for doctoral students to work closely with experienced researchers and academics on key issues related to information systems and information technology research, education, and career.
Of note, fewer than half of the student applicants to the Doctoral Consortium were accepted. Dr. Guzman served as Co-Chair of this 14-member panel, which included participants from Syracuse University, Florida State University, and Southern Illinois University.
This year’s ACM Special Interest Group (SIG) on Management Information Systems (MIS) conference ran from June 20th-22nd in Nashville. The goal of ACM SIGMIS is to promote high-quality research and practices in the management of information systems and technologies in management commerce. They have held annual conferences for over 50 years, working closely with both the academic and practitioner communities.
