Dr. Marion Emma Cornell

Dr. Cornell’s areas of expertise include (a) literature, (b) cinema, (c) cultural studies, (d) popular culture, (e) media literacy, (f) social change, and (g) journalism. Dr. Cornell has taught and developed courses in English composition, literature, film, and critical thinking on campus, online, and onsite. From 2001-2006, Dr. Cornell served as college advisor for the Treasure Valley Community College (TVCC) rural satellite office providing admissions counseling, mentoring, and student services for distance education. She ran the TVCC Education program at an adult correctional facility from 2006-2011, a challenging job that strengthened her understanding of the many barriers to education and how to help adult learners succeed. Since 2013, Dr. Cornell has been working with Klamath Community College (KCC) to increase access to college classes, community education, and vocational training through distance education technologies and on-site classes. Dr. Emma Cornell has taught and developed courses in English composition, literature, film, and critical thinking both online and on campus.

Dr. Cornell serves as chair of the Lake County College Advisory Board, developing partnerships between the local school district, hospital, workforce agencies, Goodwill Industries, and the community college to increase access to college classes, community education, and vocational training for a rural area through distance education technologies and on-site classes. Dr.Cornell is presently the Education Foundation chair in the American Association of University Women, was a state chair from 2004-2006, and branch president from 2002-2005. She also serves as an Online Liaison for Higher Education Teaching and Learning (HETL). In 2013, Dr. Cornell presented “Student Success and Retention Online: It’s All About the People!” at the Student Success & Retention conference in Portland, Oregon. In 2016, she won the KCC Adjunct Faculty Leadership award for outstanding teaching and service.

Often called Dr.M or Doc, Dr.Cornell enjoys winter sledding, hiking, and playing music with family and friends. She loves to read and also likes to listen to books on long car rides.
