TUI University Establishes Military Advisory Committee of the Board to Help TUI Assist Active and Reserve Military Personnel Achieve Their Education Goals
Cypress, CA, September 29, 2010 — TUI University, a leader in online education, today announced that General (Ret.) William R. Looney III and Lieutenant General (Ret.) Thomas F. Metz have been appointed to the University’s Board of Managers. As TUI board members, they will utilize their extensive military and leadership experience to support the University’s vision to provide educational opportunities to the military, veterans, civilian military personnel and their families.
General Looney and Lieutenant General Metz will also join TUI’s newly formed Military Advisory Committee along with fellow board member Command Sergeant Major (Ret.) William J. (“Joe”) Gainey. Under their leadership, this committee will provide guidance to the University to meet the unique educational needs of the military, veterans and their families. The Military Advisory Committee of the board will help ensure that TUI degree programs complement professional military education and training and aid in preparing military students to lead in service and in the civilian community. Finally, this committee will help the university shape its plans and strategies to expand its enrollments with the military, veterans and their families.
General Looney recently retired from the United States Air Force, as Commander, Air Education and Training Command, Randolph Air Force Base Texas. As the AETC Commander, he was responsible for all Air Force recruiting, education and training. His command included the Air Force Recruiting Service, Air University and two numbered air forces consisting of 13 bases, 1,750 aircraft and more than 92,000 active duty, reserve, guard, civilians and contractors. Today he serves as a consultant to a broad range of international organizations.
Lieutenant General Metz, also a mentor, advisor and consultant for a broad range of international activities, accumulated almost 40 years of commissioned service in the U.S. Army. He served as the Central Command’s Chief of Staff, and during Operation Iraqi Freedom led more than 120,000 Multi-National Corps — Iraq coalition troops. He also served in two key billets for prioritizing and allocating resources for the Armed Forces as a Deputy and Vice Director in the Joint Staff Force Structure, Resources, and Assessment Directorate, J-8.
