Dr. Eddie Gordon

Program Chair - School of Criminal Justice

Dr. Eddie Gordon is an accomplished criminal justice scholar, higher education leader, and practitioner with more than two decades of experience spanning academia, public administration, child welfare, and law enforcement. He holds a Ph.D. in Criminal Justice. His doctoral research examined the recidivism rates of female prisoners in Georgia, exposing significant inequities in reentry opportunities—most notably the fact that women, despite being the state’s fastest-growing prison population, are allocated only a small portion of available halfway house beds. This work brought critical attention to systemic disparities that hinder successful reintegration.

Earlier in his career, Dr. Gordon participated in a cross-agency initiative to strengthen sentencing protocols in child abuse and neglect cases, a formative experience that shaped his transition into higher education. He later served as a Special Investigator for the Georgia Department of Human Resources, where he investigated child fatalities, developed statewide investigative protocols, trained child-welfare staff, and served in high-need jurisdictions. He also previously worked as a Deputy Sheriff and continues to contribute to fraud prevention and investigative practice as a Certified Fraud Examiner.

Dr. Gordon serves as Program Chair for the School of Criminal Justice. He also was instrumental in creating the Bachelor of Criminal Justice program at Atlanta Metropolitan State College and previously served as an Associate Professor at the University of the Virgin Islands. His teaching and research interests encompass corrections, criminology, deviant behavior, recidivism, addiction, and criminal behavior analysis.

Beyond academia, Dr. Gordon remains committed to community service and professional engagement. He resides in Clayton County, Georgia, where he is the proud father of a young daughter.
