Dr. Michael S. Garmon is a Full-time Faculty in the Glenn R. Jones College of Business. Dr. Garmon is a former healthcare insurance executive, who has held a variety of positions (CFO, COO) in new product development (disease management and health and wellness programs), health insurance operations, provider relations and contracting, finance, integrated health care, predictive modeling, and outcomes/research.
Dr. Garmon has experience in both the private sector and in public sector (government) healthcare organizations. His research interests include organizational learning, culture, and identity, and the use of Structural Equation Modeling (SEM). Dr. Garmon’s personal interests include reading classic literature and history.

Dr. Michael S. Garmon is the Department Chair of Management and Leadership Studies in the Glenn R. Jones College of Business. Dr. Garmon has over 30 years of experience in the healthcare field, where he has worked in direct clinical care roles (E.R., emergency crisis intervention, inpatient psychiatric), and as a healthcare administrator. Dr. Garmon was the Deputy Administrator of a County MH/MR organization, in which he was responsible for program operations and new program development, finance and accounting, data analysis, and the annual strategic planning process. As a former executive of a $1.5B national healthcare insurance company, Dr. Garmon has held a variety of positions in healthcare finance (CFO), healthcare operations (COO), strategic planning, new product development, disease management and health and wellness programs, outcomes/research, predictive modeling, and provider relations and contracting. Dr. Garmon has held positions in both the private (hospital and health insurance) and public (government) business sectors. Dr. Garmon has developed and taught undergraduate, graduate, and doctoral coursework in a variety of areas, including: Management, Leadership, Finance, Accounting, Strategic Management, Data Analysis, and Business Ethics. His doctoral dissertation used Structural Equation Modeling (SEM) to study the interrelationship between organizational learning, organizational identity, and organizational culture in healthcare and a variety of other organizations. Dr. Garmon has chaired and participated as a member on several dissertation committees in which students have used SEM in their research studies. He holds a Ph.D. in Business Administration, an M.A. in Organization Management, and a B.S.B.A with a concentration in Accounting.
