April 14, 2015 – Cypress, CA – Trident University International’s (Trident) talented faculty team – over 80% of which hold doctorate degrees – is a diverse group of high caliber academics and seasoned professionals. Through association appointments, scholarly research, published works, and conference presentations, Trident’s faculty is actively contributing to the advancement of their respective fields and finding ways to improve the student experience.

COLLEGE OF BUSINESS ADMINISTRATION

PROGRAM DIRECTOR SERVES AS CO-CHAIR OF COMPUTING CONFERENCE
Dr. Indira Guzman, Program Director of the Ph.D. in Business Administration program, is the program co-chair of the ACM Special Interest Group in Management Information Systems (ACM SIGMIS) Computers and People Research (CPR) conference that will be held June 4-6 in Newport Beach, CA. The theme will be “Cyber Security Workforce in the Global Context. ACM SIGMIS, the world’s largest computing association, promotes best practice and research in the management of information systems and technologies in management commerce. Dr. Guzman previously served as Program Director in the College of Information Systems.

PROFESSOR & PH.D. GRADUATE’S PAPERS SEE CONFERENCE ACCEPTANCE
Dr. Qin Sun, Faculty Lead in the Master of Business Administration program, had her paper titled “The Analytical Model Of Country Resources, Country Image And Foreign Direct Investment: The Country Branding Implications” accepted by 2015 Academy of Marketing Science Annual Conference. The conference will be held May 12-15 in Denver, Colorado. Additionally, the conference accepted another paper by Dr. Sun titled “Personal Cultural Orientation, Destination Brand Equity, and Revisit Intention: Implications for Destination Branding in Latin America.” This paper was a joint effort between Dr. Sun and Dr. Adolfo Cardona, a recent Ph.D. graduate from the College of Business Administration at Trident..

BUSINESS FACULTY SEE PAPERS ACCEPTED BY JOURNALS
Dr. Belal Kaifi, Faculty Lead in the Bachelor of Science in Business Administration program, and Bachelor of Science in Business Administration faculty member Dr. Laura Poluka, received acceptance for publication of their paper titled “Performance Coaching Within the Telecommuting Industry” in the Journal of Applied Management and Entrepreneurship. Additionally, Dr. Kaifi, along with Dr. Heesam Kang and Dr. Dan Corcoran – both Faculty Leads in the Bachelor of Science in Business Administration program – have their paper titled “Afghan-Americans’ Understanding, Perception, and Commitment to Corporate Social Responsibility in Afghanistan: A Study Based Upon Gender, Generational Affiliation, and Leadership Experience” accepted for publication in the Open Journal of Law and Ethics.

FACULTY LEAD PUBLISHES IN SCIENCE JOURNAL
Dr. Joshua Shackman, Faculty Lead in the Bachelor of Science in Business Administration program, just published the paper “Energy’s Shadow Price and Energy Efficiency in China: A Non-parametric Input Distance Function Analysis” in the journal Energies with co-authors Penfeng Sheng and Jun Yang, both of Chongqing University in Chongqing, China. It will appear in a special issue dedicated to energy policy and climate change in May. Energies is a respected science and economics journal that is listed in EbscoWeb.

BUSINESS PROFESSOR REVIEWED BY BUSINESS LAW REVIEW
Professor Nicholas Vakkur, faculty member in Trident’s Bachelor of Science in Business Administration program, just received a substantial review in Business Law Review (Kluwer Law International) for his recently published book Corporate Governance Regulation: How Poor Management is Destroying the Global Economy (Wiley, 2013), co-written with Zulma Herrera. Business Law Review is a highly respected law journal that offers a regular source of practical information for legal practitioners and researchers dealing with business law on a day-to-day basis.

FACULTY LEAD PUBLISHES HUMAN RESOURCE MANAGEMENT TEXTBOOK
Dr. Belal Kaifi, Faculty Lead in the Bachelor of Science in Business Administration program, recently published a textbook on Human Resources Management titled, Human Resource Management: An Applied Approach through Llumina Press.

COLLEGE OF HEALTH SCIENCES

VICE PROVOST, DEAN TO SERVE ON SCPHA GOVERNING COUNCIL
Dr. Holly Orozco, Trident’s Vice Provost of Institutional Effectiveness and Dean of the College of Health Sciences and the College of Education, was recently nominated to serve on the 2015 Governing Council of the Southern California Public Health Association (SCPHA). The three-year term will see her serve as President Elect this year, President in 2016, and Immediate Past President in 2017. In 2014 she was elected to serve as Vice President of the SCPHA Governing Council.

PROFESSOR’S WORK SHOWCASED BY THE E.P.A.
Dr. Rania Sabty-Daily, faculty member in Trident’s College of Health Sciences, was recently showcased by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) for her continued involvement in a clean air community project at the El Marino Language School (EMLS) in Culver City, CA. EMLS is located near Interstate 405, the busiest highway in the country. Parents and teachers – led by Dr. Sabty-Daily – came together in 2011 to form Clean Air: El Marino. This advocacy group has been dedicated to finding strategies that improve indoor air quality and collaborating with the school district to implement effective strategies

An interview with her appeared on the EPA Region 9 website, as part of the Clean, Green, and Healthy Schools Regional Highlights for 2014.

DR. LOUGH EARNS Ph.D., PARTICIPATES IN SPEAKING ENGAGEMENTS
Earlier this month, Health Sciences faculty member Dr. Joy Lough completed her Ph.D. degree at Capella University. Additionally, she recently took part in two speaking engagements – first on March 24 called “The Year of the Selfie” at North Carolina State University and the second on March 27th in Greensboro, NC, titled “Get the Job.” Dr. Lough has also donated her time and knowledge to provide job training to women in crisis.

PROFESSOR TO PRESENT AT GLOBAL LEARN 2015
Dr. Sherrie Lu, faculty member in the Master of Science in Health Science Administration program, is slated to present at Global Learn 2015 in Berlin, Germany. The conference runs from April 16th-17th.

FACULTY MEMBER ASSUMES COMMAND CIVIL AIR PATROL CHAPTER
On March 12th, Health Science faculty member Dr. David Alegre assumed command of the volunteer Civil Air Patrol Arizona Wing’s Prescott Squadron 206. His squadron, comprised of about 30 adults and 13 school-age cadets, train almost monthly with other Arizona squadrons, law enforcement, the Air Force, and United States Northern Command. Nationally, the Civil Air Patrols focus their efforts on aerospace education, cadet programs, and emergency services.

PROFESSOR’S ARTICLE TO APPEAR IN COUNTERTERRORISM JOURNAL
Dr. Thomas Hunter, faculty member in the Bachelor of Science in Emergency Disaster Management program, recently had his article “Wolves Amongst the Sheep: Assessing the Terrorist Threat to Academic Institutions in the United States” published in the Journal of Counterterrorism and Security. His piece examines the dynamic of school shootings, specifically with regard to the threat posed by international terrorist groups to institutions in the United States,

DR. HALL ACCEPTED INTO PRETIGIOUS PROGRAM
Dr. Maria Hall, faculty member in the Bachelor of Science of Health Sciences program, has been accepted into the prestigious Programs to Increase Diversity in Cardiovascular Health Related Research, which is sponsored by the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute. The primary goal of the program is to increase the number of scientists and research-oriented faculty from ethnic groups underrepresented in biomedical sciences, as well as those with disabilities, in order to compete for external funding for scientific research in the biomedical and behavioral sciences in heart, lung, blood, and sleep disorders. The program will be conducted later this year at the Summer Institute at the SUNY Downstate Medical Center.

Additionally, Dr. Hall has been recognized by her alma mater, East Carolina University, as a “40 Under 40 Honoree for 2015” in recognition for the significant impact she has made in research and education.

PROFESSOR PUBLISHES ARTICLE IN ENVIRONMENTAL HEALTH JOURNAL
Health Science faculty member, Dr. Erica Wilson’s article was selected for publication in the March issue of the National Journal of Environmental Health, 77 (7), 8-11. The article, entitled “Foodborne Illness and Seasonality Related to Mobile Food Sources at Festivals and Group Gatherings in the State of Georgia,” also appears on the front cover of the publication.

PROFESSOR PRESENTS AT THE 2014 UALA CONFERENCE
Dr. Kyle Peacock, faculty member in the Master of Science in Health Science Administration program presented “Retaining Staff in a Competitive Marketplace” in October at the Utah Assisted Living Association (UALA) conference in Davis County, UT. The UALA promotes assisted living throughout the State of Utah and assists regulatory bodies in defining standards as they apply to the management of senior housing.

FACULTY MEMBER EARNS CITATION FOR OUTSTANDING WORK
Congratulations to Health Sciences faculty member Dr. Roy Constantine who recently earned a Presidential Citation, for outstanding contributions to the Society of Critical Care Medicine (SCCM). The SCCM has members in 100 countries and is the largest non-profit medical organization dedicated to promoting excellence and consistency in the practice of critical care. Dr. Constantine is a Trident Ph.D. graduate.

PROFESSOR PRESENTS ON NATIVE AMERICANS AT HISTORY CONFERENCE
General Education faculty member Professor Laura Enotomo presented original research at the Missouri Valley History Conference on March 6th. Her paper, titled “The Necessity of Native Women in the Canadian Fur Trade,” was featured as part of the conference’s 19th Century Indian Policies and Encounters presentations.
