Dr. Joe Thomas

Dr. Joseph Thomas works within the arena of Information Technology Management, in the areas of Software Support, Software Development, Management Development, and Computer Operations, which he has done for the past twenty-four years. He began his career as a programmer / system analyst for the Department of Defense’s Navstar system (GPS). Dr. Thomas developed the Problem Tracking System (PTS) and Information Management System (IMS) used by the Department of Defense to track Orbiting Satellite issues and management issues. In 1986, he joined Lockheed Martin to develop Supply Support systems for the Pershing Missile System and LANTIRN programs.

In 1996, after completing his first Ph.D. in Educational Leadership, Dr. Thomas joined Oracle Corporation where he developed courseware for internal support analysts and management. In 1997, he was promoted to Operations Manager responsible for all management development training, and internal support training for U.S., Canada, and Latin America.

Dr. Thomas was appointed to the University of Phoenix Faculty in 1995, where he taught Information Technology and Business courses. He served on a development team to write a new Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology (BSIT) for accreditation with the North Central Accreditation (NCA) body. He served on the Orlando Academic Counsel and was Department Chair for Information Technology at the graduate and undergraduate level. As department chair, his responsibilities were to consult with instructors on academic issues, periodic review of course material, and recruitment of new instructors. Dr. Thomas recently wrote the hardware recommendation for a new A.S. degree in E-Commerce for Valencia Community College in Orlando, Florida.

Dr. Thomas completed a second Doctorate in Education (Ph.D.) and has finished the coursework for a third Doctorate in Information Systems (Ph.D.). He has a Master in Business Administration (MBA), Master in Information Systems (MIS), Bachelor in Computer Science (BSCS), and a Bachelor in Financial Management (BSFM) from Barry University, Florida Institute of Technology, Florida Southern College, and DeVry University. He has served as a consultant in the field of Information Technology for Educational Institutes.

Dr. Thomas has worked for Keller Graduate School of Management, DeVry University, as an Online Professor in Information Systems and Telecommunications. Joe works for Trident University International as an Online Professor in Business. Joe also worked for the Department of Defense – Army and retired from the Orange County Sheriff Office as a Manager in Intelligence-Led Policing and Crime Analysis in December 2013.

Dr. Thomas has taught business and technology courses for the last 25 years, in the classroom and online for 17 years. He currently works as Program Director for Security and Privacy Office, managing the Security Operations Center. He lives in Dunnellon, Florida, and is married to his beautiful wife Barbara. He is the proud father of Brooke and Brandon and adoring grandfather of Brody and Elaina. Joe enjoys attending Florida State football games in Tallahassee, Fla.
